Trash Cart Superheroes

The "Trash Cart Superheroes" presentation by graffiti artist Mundano tells his story of Pimp My Carroca, his crowdfunded event to paint individualized carrocas. His work is environmental and political in nature, which explains his goal for this project. Mundano's goal was to raise the self esteem of catadores in Brazil who help to provide a great service for the community. I was very intrigued by this concept, as I am interested in graffiti art, especially if it's for a good and wholesome cause. Mundano created superheroes out of people whose job is to carry around trash, which is exactly what they deserve- they provide a valuable service and deserve recognition for their hard work.

Diptychs and Triptychs

Image
The dictionary definition for a diptych is a work made up of two matching or connecting parts, while a triptych is a work made up of three matching or connecting parts. They are used for storytelling in forms of 2D art, such as photography, drawing, and painting. They present imagery that can be either of the same subject or contrasting ideas. ^ This piece is a good example of a diptych because of the stark contrast between the subject matter. One side displays light arms on a dark background, while the other side features dark legs on a white background.

Movement in Art- Animation

Image
Animation is a form of artwork that features actual movement. Animation is compiling multiple images and playing them together at a fast frame rate to make the subject matter seem as if it is moving. Animation can be done in many different ways, including taking pictures over and over and moving an object, or drawing out multiple images that create movement. Right now, I'm focused on pencil animation, which is created using a light box and pencil and tracing paper. The artist draws each individual frame and then plays them at a fast frame rate so it'll register as movement in our eyes.
