People I Admire

Someone I admire is Moxie Saturday, an artist that brings inspiration to me. I follow them on Instagram, and regularly view their work. They are very empowering and artistic and gives me hope for possibly working as a freelance artist in the future. As a fellow artist, I admire them greatly and hope to achieve the same level of craftsmanship they do one day.


Someone else I admire is my mom. She is a strong woman and has always been there for me. She works to help me improve, and gives me hope. I don't know what I'd do without her love and guidance. She has always been patient with me when it comes to my mental health, which is a prominent part of my life. We work together to improve and get me better. She is such a beacon in my life.

This technically isn't a single person, but my friends are extremely admirable. Most of my friends are artists as well, which is wonderful. I love being able to connect with them over shared interests and collaborating on artwork together. I am blessed to have some of the kindest, most wonderful friends in the world. They're funny, witty, and caring. Support from friends is incredibly important to me and their support has always been an admirable quality to me.

Cindy Sherman

Cindy Sherman is an American artist whose work focuses on photographic self portraits, using clothes and makeup to almost "disguise" herself and create themes of stereotypes and social roles. Sherman feels as if she "disappears" into her work; a sense of anonymity. Her early work consists mostly of black and white portraits, where she tells stories through her photography series. Notable examples include Murder Mystery People, Bus Riders, and Doll Clothes, where Sherman wears makeup and costumes to transform herself into a character, telling the story through photos of different characters. She shoots alone in her studio, yet her makeup skills seem as if she has recruited a team of people to be photographed. As photography as a genre has evolved, Sherman's work has changed and upped its game. Emilie Steele

Emilie Steele is a 3D artist from Stockholm, Sweden who specializes in dollmaking. Her dolls are all handmade individually from clay, and then silicon molds are made and later casted in resin. All the clothes, wigs, and accessories are handmade as well. Steele's dolls are very unique, as each one is made individually and carefully. They're very grotesque and odd, having scarily realistic faces often seen with bloodshot eyes and a solemn expression. Despite the creepiness to it all, these dolls are beautiful works of art that immediately caught my eye. I'm interested in dollmaking, and these unique creations are unlike anything I've ever seen before.
