Emilie Steele

Emilie Steele is a 3D artist from Stockholm, Sweden who specializes in dollmaking. Her dolls are all handmade individually from clay, and then silicon molds are made and later casted in resin. All the clothes, wigs, and accessories are handmade as well. Steele's dolls are very unique, as each one is made individually and carefully. They're very grotesque and odd, having scarily realistic faces often seen with bloodshot eyes and a solemn expression. Despite the creepiness to it all, these dolls are beautiful works of art that immediately caught my eye. I'm interested in dollmaking, and these unique creations are unlike anything I've ever seen before.

  1. I think these dolls are very beautiful works of art. I do have an eternal fear of dolls, so I found these to be quite freaky. I think that the fact that they are all made by hand to be very interesting. I do think that each and every doll is very unique. Very nice.

  2. These dolls are undoubtedly spooky, however, I am enthused by these visceral depictions of humans because each of them evoke a certain emotion associated with its condition.

  3. I love the eeriness of the dolls as well as the colors! I think that the poses that the artist photographed them in also affects your emotions towards each doll! The style and creepiness is inspiring to me.

  4. I love the creepiness and spooky factor of the dolls. They are all so creepy but the overall beauty of the dolls kind of distracts you from the creepiness. I like how each doll is different from each other in design but they all have the same kind of creepy vibe and idea.

  5. I love how she centers her subject matter, which really draws the attention right to the middle - which is where we usually first look at things. I like how she was able to evoke a feeling of "creepiness" through the use of reds against the black and white.
