Artemis

     Artemis is the Greek goddess of hunting, wild animals, the moon, and archery. She is the daughter of Zeus, and twin sister to Apollo. In most artwork of her, she is depicted as a young woman carrying a bow and arrow, often accompanied by a stag or a dog. In mythology, Artemis is known to be a protector of women and children. She was also a virgin, which attracted many Greek gods and men. Some of her sacred symbols include the moon and a bow and arrow.

           Egyptian art stayed in a constant style for around 3,000 years. Humans were drawn in a very rigid and repetitive style-depicted by a frontal view of the body and a side view of the head. This is displayed in the image below. The bodies of all the figures are facing forward, but their heads are pivoted and facing the side.              The main focus of Egyptian society's art was life after death and the gods. It was an Egyptian belief that after someone died, their spirit ascended to the afterlife where they would live on with the gods. Because of this, they designed most of their art to last forever. Hello! This is the blog I will be using for the 2017-2018 school year. Our first day in class, we had a discussion about prehistoric art such as cave drawings and rock sculptures.
