Marcel Duchamp
Marcel Duchamp was a French-American artist, most known for his paintings and sculpture. Other passions Duchamp had included filmography, playing chess, and writing. His paintings are very loose and shape-oriented, most of his pieces being made up of shapes. He often uses warm colors such as yellows, reds, and oranges in them. He was known for creating pieces dubbed "readymades", which were sculptures that Duchamp would make from an ordinary object and add to it until he considered said object art. One of the most noticeable examples of a readymade is the Bicycle Wheel, which consists of a front wheel of a bicycle being mounted upon a wooden stool. He called this style "retinal art", his intent being to please the eye.
